Network Diagram img.png

In the above network diagram, the box between the network switch (3) and the wireless access point (6) is a power injector. It adds electric power to the Ethernet cable to power the wireless access point (WAP), which is normally not directly connected to an electric power source. This configuration is referred to as Power over Ethernet (PoE).

The Meraki MX64 firewall has PoE built into LAN ports. These ports, which are labeled "PoE," can add electric power directly into the Ethernet cable connecting the firewall to the WAP without requiring a separate power injector.

If more WAPs are required, order a Meraki MS120-8FP or MS120-24P switch. All the ports on these switches are PoE ports, so power injectors are not necessary when using the Meraki switches.
